Security Council

The most exciting committee that holds the title of the most powerful one-The Security Council. Security Council has primary responsibility, under the Charter, for the maintenance of international peace and security. The council consists of 5 permanent members (USA, The UK, France, Russia and China) known otherwise as P5 nations and 10 non-permanent members who are appointed for a term of 2 years. It dispatches military operations, imposes sanctions, mandates arms inspections, deploys election monitors and more.

The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the international peace or birth of any aggression that it suspects. It arranges the parties of dispute to come together on a common ground and settle the dispute by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment, terms of settlement and ideas of conclusion. However, depending upon the situation, the Security Council is eligible to break off diplomatic ties and impose sanctions or even authorize forceful actions to maintain or restore international peace and security.

Its main functions are: I) to investigate any situation threatening international peace II) to recommend appropriate procedures or methods of adjustment if disputes might endanger international peace and security.
