DISEC

The apt abbreviation of Disarmament and International Security Committee, DISEC is the first Committee of UN General Assembly. DISEC functions in dealing with topics that revolve around disarmament, global issues, and threats to peace that jeopardize international security. It also functions simultaneously to prevent proliferation of weapons around the globe. This way the committee is an eligible platform to discuss for delegates on a wide range of topics.

Under the UN Charter, all member states and observers of the United Nations are automatically part of the first committee of the General Assembly, and have an equal vote. Documents drafted by this committee require a simple majority to be passed. However, the committee is not able to mandatorize any binding resolutions, impose sanctions or authorize armed intervention; the power which lies solely in the hands of the Security Council only. Still the nations under the committee can make recommendations to the Security Council regarding such affairs which makes the discussion here extremely invaluable.

The Committee here at BNKS MUN is deeply invested in modelling this as authentically as possible to give a taste of what it actually feels to be part of the UN Committee to its delegates while developing the leadership qualities in them.
